CurioDen builds observation-ready ant habitats for classrooms, science museums, and home learners. Each kit is designed for a 40-minute class period: set up, observe, record, store. Every kit ships without live ants. You receive the habitat, the observation tools, and written guidance for sourcing a colony locally or redeeming a live-ant voucher where state rules allow.
Retail customers can shop all kits. Schools, districts, and distributors should start with a wholesale quote.
Four product lines, one job: make ant behavior visible
- Ant farm kits — clear gel habitats with a maze profile, a magnifier, and a stay-put lid. A low-mess way to show tunnel building inside a single period. For ages 6+ with adult supervision.
- Ant habitats — sand-filled nest boxes with an acrylic observation window, refillable sand, and a humidity rod. Better for multi-week projects where students need to see chamber structure form.
- Classroom STEM kits — 6- and 12-station sets sized for a class of 24–30, with a printed teacher guide, observation journals, and a shelf box built for daily handling.
- Accessories and refills — gel refill packs, sand, tweezers, magnifiers, and spare lids. Repeat-purchase items for teachers who run the unit every year.
Why schools and districts choose CurioDen
- Documentation before adjectives. Compliance documentation is available on request, including CPC and ASTM F963 test reports. Tracking labels appear on the product and the packaging, and country of origin is marked on every carton.
- No live inventory to manage. Because kits ship without live ants, a teacher can keep a kit in a cabinet until the unit starts, and a gift shop does not carry live stock or temperature liability. Voucher and local-sourcing guidance ship in the box.
- Purchase-order friendly. We quote against a school or district PO, list unit prices per case pack, and answer bulk requests within one business day. See the wholesale terms and tier table.
- Built for repeat units. Refills, spare parts, and a digital teacher guide mean the same kit can run year after year, which is what makes a classroom set defensible in a budget review.
What a classroom unit looks like
- Plan (10 minutes, before class). Download the teacher guide, pick a three-week window, and decide whether the class will source ants locally or redeem a voucher. Check the shipping page and the live-ant shipping policy if you are outside the continental U.S.
- Set up (one period). Students assemble a station, record the starting state in the observation journal, and agree on a shared baseline: temperature, light, and what counts as a tunnel.
- Observe (10 minutes a day, three weeks). One station per 2–4 students, daily journal entries, two short written checkpoints, and a final one-page summary.
- Reset (5 minutes). Store the habitat, log the result, and reorder gel or sand for the next cohort. Refills are the only consumable.
